Record TSA Delays Hit U.S. Airports Amid Partial Government Shutdown

Category: Economy, US, World

Travelers across the United States faced historic wait times at airport security checkpoints Wednesday as a partial government shutdown led to widespread Transportation Security Administration (TSA) staffing shortages.

Thousands of TSA officers called in sick, forcing the agency to deploy Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) personnel to assist with screening at major hubs. Lines stretched for hours at airports nationwide, according to reports from travelers and airline officials.

The delays come as US Congress continues to negotiate funding to end the shutdown. TSA Administrator said in a statement that the agency is working to minimize disruptions but acknowledged the impact on passengers.

Airlines have advised travelers to check flight status and arrive earlier than usual.
